5 out of 5 stars Al Gore's business: Generation Investment Management, LLP   February 2, 2010
P. J. Rowan (Houston, TX United States)
2 out of 7 found this review helpful

This beautifully illustrated coffee table book is mainly valuable as a guide to making money off of the "anthropogenic global warming" scam. As front man for this cause, Gore is making millions already. check out his company, Generation Investment Management, LLP ("GIM"). [...]

Look under "news," at their website: their fund is already managing well over 5 billion in assets. What does this mean? Well, basically, the more that everyday people like you and me believe in anthropogenic global warming, the more likely it looks that "green" businesses will be getting more business: solar energy, carbon credit traders, etc. To make money on this, you can take your money and invest it in companies poised to make lots of money. Like GE who makes solar panels. Etc. If you have a lot of money to invest, but DON'T know which companies are poised to make a lot of money, well, you have someone knowledgeable in that field manage your investments - and you pay them some modest fee to do this for you. Win, win; you make money, they make money.

Well, this is what Al Gore does for a living. Has he told you he manages green investments for a living? No? Why not? Because then maybe you would see it is all a big money-makign scam for the HAVEs to treat us HAVE-NOTs like chumps? The protesters in Copenhagen figured this out, as the HAVEs locked out the HAVE-NOT countries from their plans to institute Colonialism 2.0. What? Well, Copenhagen would declare: hey, each country: here is your baseline level of energy expenditure in toto; enjoy!!!! The HAVEs get to jockey for their portion, while the HAVE-NOTs will be locked-out. The HAVEs once again make money at the expense of sovereignty of the HAVE-NOTs. With a global agreement, the HAVE-NOTS will be relegated to sources of supplies/natural resources and labor. Colonialism 2.0.

So, how has the United Nations gotten so many HAVE-NOT countries on-board?

Well, the answer is actually provided by the United Nations:
[...]
This part of the UN is devoted to encouraging investment in the anthropogenic global warming control efforts (by the way, did I mention that this is Al Gore's business?). So, the UN goes to each country, and offers lucrative investment opportunities to those in power if only those in power will get their countries on-board with the climate treaty idea, such as Kyoto, or Copenhagen.

The sales job goes like this: here is all of this science, and here is how you will make money.

For Gore and the others who are "in" on this scam, the coolet thing is this: anthropogenic global warming does not have to be true in order for them to make millions, nay, billions. All they need is for all of us everyday people to believe in anthropogenic global warming, and to believe that opponents are "conspiracy theorists," etc.

So, if you are a large investor, check out Al's GIM.

If you think I am a conspiracy theorist, oh, well. Or, you could do something harmless such as browse the Generation Investment Management website - I gave it to ya up there, in case you have trouble with Google. And, start reading at UNPRI - I gave the website up there, so ignorance is no longer a defense for not knowing 1. how Al Goer makes money, and 2. how the UN is getting everyone on board.

The Colonialism 2.0 stuff? Well, you will have to think about what Colonialism 1.0 has been, and look at the economics of it all. In a nutshell, it served to have the HAVE-NOTs be sources of materials, labor, and markets for products from the HAVEs, while keeping their prospects for self-rule and full global political and economic participation at a minimum. Also, you will have to look back at Copenhagen 15 news to verify that the HAVE-NOT countries (lots of G77 countries, and more) were locked out of the real action in the back rooms. I don't have an awesome single link for that.

All in all, a beautiful coffee table book. Plus, each time you thumb through this colorful tome, it will get you thinking about how much money you could scrape up, and if it would be enough for GIM to take you on as a client.

Al Gore as done a great job of combining hard facts in an easy-to-read format with stunning photos which say at least a thousand words each. The book makes a great gift to others who are concerned about the future of our society and our world.

5 out of 5 stars Impressive breadth and depth: If you only read one book about the climate crisis then this is it   January 24, 2010

If you want to only read one book which will explain all the issues regarding the climate crisis then this is the book. It has an impressive amount of breadth and depth and is very readable (and has lots of illustrations). I could definitely see using this book as the basis for a science class at the high school or college ("physics for poets") level. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Our Choice by Al Gore   January 8, 2010

I loved this book. I had to prepare a review of it for an upcoming women's forum on global climate change, so I looked at it with a more critical eye than I normally would, but I still loved it.
The book is, as one reviewer put it ..."visually stunning" (the photo of the Gobi Desert encroaching on once-fertile farmland is particularly compelling.)And for those who devour statistics and great quotes, they're all there. But I was particularly pleased that he spent some quality time discussing the "eight-hundred-pound gorilla in the room" that most climate books leave out or gloss over for fear of offending - overpopulation. Why it is so difficult for supposedly rational people to understand the connection between too many people and too few resources is beyond me. I agree with Mr. Gore about the technical solutions like increasing efficiencies, etc., but his bringing up so articulately the subject of women's role in all of this was a breath of fresh air. We have ample proof that educating women and giving them reproductive choices raises the standard of living and quality of life everywhere. Women are more than half the world's population. No nation, no society on earth can afford to squander or undervalue such a treasured resource. Kudos to Mr. Gore.

5 out of 5 stars The Gold Standard of Climate Change Books   January 6, 2010

Climate change should never have become a political battle but when money is on the line I suppose it's inevitable. On one side of the debate we have Al Gore authoring an excellently written, intellectually stimulating, visually stunning and easy to understand book on the threat of climate change. On the opposite side is Sarah Palin who Twitters, "Earth saw clmate chnge4 ions;will cont 2 c chnges.R duty2responsbly devlop resorces4humankind/not pollute&destroy;but cant alter naturl chng," (yes, that is a real Palin tweet). The effort that Al Gore has expended in researching climate change is quite evident in this book and equally evident is the amount of effort Palin has taken in developing her views. The debate reminds me of the days when tobacco companies would work to convince the public that smoking has no link to lung cancer except in this case it's the entire planet being put at risk. Unless there really is an enormous multinational conspiracy by climatologist around the world to scam us all global warming is likely the greatest challenge humanity has ever faced.

Trying to inform people to the threat of global warming is a very delicate balancing act. On the one hand you want to make people aware of the danger but you don't want to leave people feeling hopeless and paralyzed. Al Gore is able to thread that needle by presenting a book that is both optimistic and dire. The book carefully and methodically lays out the science behind climate change as well as ramifications and most importantly solutions. I read another book recently that focused more on the debate and about how the public is being manipulated by large corporations, PR firms and politicians. The information is important but I question how effective it is in swaying the public. "Our Choice" addresses this misinformation campaign but only after laying out a rock solid foundation for understanding the cause of climate change and means of combating it.

To those who accept the existence of global warming as a man made crisis it is incredibly frustrating to listen to people who simply dismiss all the science and claim that it's a big liberal conspiracy. Rather than cast aside deniers as hopeless or sling disparaging labels Al Gore does his best to reach out and try and speak their language. Global warming is a problem that has grown out of control because of distortions in the market. The actual price of our current fossil fuel based energy system is being hidden and so a true comparison of cost with a sustainable alternative energy system cannot be judged properly. The market only functions as designed when investors are able to analyze information accurately. One brilliant argument that Al Gore uses was something I had never considered before. There have been documents released showing that the oil industries own scientists concluded that global warming is a man made threat but company executives decided this information wasn't conducive to their business and buried it. But as Gore points out, publicly traded companies are legally required to present an honest assessment of the value of their stocks. Gore draws an analogy with the collapse in the value of subprime due to their lack of transparency. Likewise, the value of fossil fuel stocks are likely to be vastly overinflated because of an intentional effort to hide information damaging to their business model and although Gore never comes out and says it that sounds like a criminal offense to me. This is more than a lack of transparency; this is an active and ongoing suppression of information done to maintain stock values.

Even if you put aside global warming, modifying buildings to be energy efficient and creating a modern "smart grid" is a tremendous money saver that would pay for itself in a matter of a few short years. Moving towards clean energy would be a huge job creator and that should be appealing to just about everyone regardless of political leanings unless they literally work for oil and gas or take their money.

As someone who is a firm believer in the threat of global warming I am naturally inclined to look favorably on a book like this but I seriously do think it is extremely well done. Al Gore has a talent for relaying information without appearing preachy or accusatory. There will always be those who believe that Al Gore is a world class liar and discount anything he says but Al Gore cleverly appeals to peoples own self interest to convince them to give alternative energy a chance. There were a ton of surprising facts in the book that caught me by surprise. For instance I had no idea that the soil in rainforests is only nutrient rich on a thin top layer. It would seem to me that in an area so teaming with life that the soil would be thick with nutrients but apparently the denseness of the trees causes all the energy to get absorbed into the canopy. I found that fascinating and I found much of the book fascinating. The point is this book seems to hit its target in every way possible. It is about as entertaining as a book can be given the frightening subject matter. I unreservedly recommend this book to anyone who cares the least about the future of our planet.
