Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
For freshman/sophomore-level courses in Introduction to Sociology that use a comprehensive text. This ground-breaking revision of Sociology not only has a new look and much new content, but it represents the first complete multi-media learning package in sociology-a carefully coordinated combination textbook, CD-ROM, and Website. Authoritative, comprehensive, and stimulating, it is the most widely-adopted sociology package-offering a fresh and contemporary perspective-with a focus on the major methods, theories, and findings of the field. Its emphasis on cultivating a global perspective, its multicultural view, its focus on critical thinking, and its abundance of boxed features brings sociology to life and appeals to students across all academic backgrounds.

1 out of 5 stars Annoying   September 28, 1999

There are four main problems I have found with this textbook:

#1Key terms are not really well explained at all. The language in the definitions is very stilted and DULL.

#2While it is very important to be tolerant and open-minded, I do not want to be told what to think by a textbook. The author is so solemnly, pompously, and piously PC that sometimes I want to scream.

#3Some of his statements seem awfully dated. More pertinent to the seventies than to the 1990s.

#4And the much-touted CD only works on those high-end computers that EVERY college student can afford.
