 Very good to learn Java... and it gets you certified! January 3, 2009
I got to this book almost accidentally, while looking for a textbook to learn Java a bit more in depth after I had read Barry Burd's "Java for Dummies - 4th Ed" (which, by the way, was for me a nice, easy-to-read intro to Java). Then I realized that, besides learning Java syntax, I could use this book to get certified. The SCJP6 exam was a stimulating goal that kept me interested along the way and, as promised, this book got me through the finish line with 87%, an excellent score provided that I had no prior programming experience with Java nor other OO languages (as a physicist, I program mostly Fortran and some Perl). In summary: nice and clear to read, contains very few typos, very useful to learn the basics... and it gets you certified!

Excelent product. I'm now getting ready to get my SCJP still this year.
Amazon rocks, as the estimate date was about Dec, 25 and I got my product at home about one month before (I live in Brazil). The product was way cheaper ( even including the delivery taxes) than it would be should I have bought it here in Brazil. Go ahead and buy the product, and choose Amazon.com!!

This is an excellently written book. It is written in a classroom delivery format and it presents the serious illusion of a lecturer/tutor standing and presenting the information in front of you whilst having a conversation with you about the nuances of Java.... I cannot plug this book enough so to see for yourself I suggest you LOOK INSIDE and read a few chapters. Best Java book buy for yours truly.

This book is very well organized with good summaries at the end of every chapter.. though its a big book, it will definitely keep u interested. it covers the all the topics required for the exam thoroughly and I liked the author's style of writing
