Product Description #1 New York Times bestselling author Nelson DeMille delivers the long-awaited follow-up to his classic novel The Gold Coast.
When John Sutter's aristocratic wife killed her mafia don lover, John left America and set out in his sailboat on a three-year journey around the world, eventually settling in London. Now, ten years later, he has come home to the Gold Coast, that stretch of land on the North Shore of Long Island that once held the greatest concentration of wealth and power in America, to attend the imminent funeral of an old family servant. Taking up temporary residence in the gatehouse of Stanhope Hall, John finds himself living only a quarter of a mile from Susan who has also returned to Long Island. But Susan isn't the only person from John's past who has reemerged: Though Frank Bellarosa, infamous Mafia don and Susan's ex-lover, is long dead, his son, Anthony, is alive and well, and intent on two missions: Drawing John back into the violent world of the Bellarosa family, and exacting revenge on his father's murderer--Susan Sutter. At the same time, John and Susan's mutual attraction resurfaces and old passions begin to reignite, and John finds himself pulled deeper into a familiar web of seduction and betrayal. In THE GATE HOUSE, acclaimed author Nelson Demille brings us back to that fabled spot on the North Shore -- a place where past, present, and future collides with often unexpected results.

Chose the Wrong Reader December 5, 2008 I listen to all Demille books on Audio, and I am a big fan. If you enjoyed Gold Coast, you will enjoy this book. But: Scott Brick has become the voice of all Demille's best characters from Sutter to Corey. As I listened to this epic sized story, I couldn't shake the constant reminder that someone chose a different reader, and how much better this would have been if read by Scott Brick. Nelson, find the person who made this epic sized mistake, and remove his/her decision making privileges.
Disappointing December 4, 2008 I loved the Gold Coast, and couldn't wait for this book to come out. While I really enjoy the characters' wit, I felt that the story was weak. Also, there were a few inconsistencies. It could have used better editing. I was able to finish the book, but the Gold Coast was definitely MUCH better.
Rambling, but some fun along the way. December 4, 2008 I think Nelson Demille lives vicariously through John Sutter!!! Regrettably Sutter should have stayed in London and passed on this journey. It could have been edited down considerably and been tighter and better.
Gate House December 4, 2008 I purchased this book because Nelson DeMille has always been a riveting author. I have read practically every one of his novels and must sadly report that this one is the worst book I have ever attempted to read. Discarded it after 250 pages of Long Island/Mafia sex. I expected much more from Mr. DeMille and am sadly disappointed.
A 'Bomb':A 200 page book crammed into 914 pages (large Print) December 4, 2008 I am a real fan of DeMille's but he 'blew-it' on this one! The book is tedious and boring to plow through with a predictable ending. If DeMille's purpose was to paint a picture of the foibles of the super-rich he beat that to death by the 40th chapter. This would've been a much more effective 200 page book but DeMille crammed it all into over 900 pages. I thought I'd never get to the end vice his other Novels which are excellent. Frankly, I was 'turned-off' by the subject, the subjects, and the never-ending manner of discourse in which it was presented. It's a 'bomb' and not worth reading. Hope DeMille's next effort gets him 'back-on-track'!
